The Genesis: 1982 President's Honour
In 1982, as a sixteen-year-old Girl Guide of the Bharat Scouts and Guides, Sharmistha Banerjee received the prestigious President's Award directly from the President of India, Sri Neelam Sanjeeva Reddy.
More than forty years later she remains actively dedicated to the movement — regularly training new cohorts of Girl Guides. It is the longest unbroken commitment in her life, underpinning her deep-rooted ethos of quiet public service.
